THE LEDGERWOOD HOME & GARDEN

Every Christmas time our doorbell rings… What started out as a few young kids, moms and a santa-hatted dad with a guitar - has now grown to dozens of young kids with moms and several santa-hatted dads with guitars - there to sing Christmas Carols, beautifully, with flashlights, mittens and runny noses. It is a wonderfully happy and joyful sight. A throwback from a bygone era… Meet The Ledgerwoods.

When I first met KC, I was certain she was a professional dancer, perhaps a famous one based on how she appeared… but KC, is a self-described “80 year old lady.” She only recently turned 40. She writes thank you notes for even the simplest gesture, bakes her own bread and beautiful creations from their bounty of garden produce, and befriends and helps everyone she meets with a compassionate intuitive heartfelt trained ear. She is a caring and successful licensed therapist and also a movement instructor, about to embark on her own new business of her own combining these talents.

Geoff grew up learning to garden from his mother on their 150-acre home in Omak, Washington, a small town in north central Washington state. It is clear to me that he is from the Pacific Northwest based on the passion with which he works his land and garden. Geoff is also an incredibly knowledgable beekeeper and they have eleven hives. I was able to photograph their home & garden right during his honey harvest. One of our favorite things to do with people who come visit us, is to walk their garden, it is utterly breathtaking. When I took my dad there for the first time he said to me, “But does he have a job?” To which I replied: “Yes, he is a surgeon.” Most importantly, they are Mother and Father to Thea Mae, who is now 6. They are also true artists of life, who compliment and enrich each other.

The Ledgerwoods bought the property behind ours in 2013. What a wonderful twist of fate that day was for us, as they are some of the most special people we have ever known. It is truly mind-blowing to me, how much they have transformed this property in less than ten years, when they were not yet even forty years old yet. They scraped the home and replaced it with a home they designed themselves and moved in 2015. The house is a spacious open contemporary with a special midcentury bent. It comfortably holds the myriad of gatherings they host all year long, nearly all to benefit the people they love from their communities. They host an annual Christmas party, occasional church services in their yard, hold bring-your-own-chair-and picnic concerts in their yard, and they are the appetizer house for our September neighborhood progressive party. One time, I attended a concert in their home by an astonishingly talented 10 year old piano player and his family. They hold these recitals regularly for him.

Geoff & KC have friends and family everywhere, of all ages and stripes, and we are so fortunate to be among them. They are force for good in all that they do.
